Networking company dupes gullible laborers

Operators of Smart Right Way (SRW), a networking company based in Jhapa, have fled after collecting a hefty amount of money mostly from local manual workers.

Jaya Prakash Kalwar, the main operator of SRW, had collected Rs 13,000 each from many manual workers.
Kalwar has been out of contact for the few weeks now. Locals suspect that Kalwar might have run away with their hard-earned money.

Over 4,500 people have become SWC members so far. In Jhapa district alone, 85 persons have got SRW memberships.

They were promised various benefit packages -- life insurance worth Rs 800,000, monthly allowances of Rs 3,000 for five year, financial support for those who want to construct their houses, among other things.

Moreover, they were promised a diamond ring if they added five new members in a week. A number of laborers had taken loans at a high interest rate from local moneylenders to get SRW memberships.

"We, all five members of our family, submitted a total of Rs 65,000 by taking loans at 2 per cent interest rate," said Ratna Kumari Phunyal, a tea estate worker in Jhapa.

Phunyal had persuaded seven of her acquaintances to become SWC members. She also got a “diamond” ring for adding five new members to SWC network within a week. Later, it turned out that it was not a diamond ring at all. "All those whom I persuaded to become SWC members are now asking me to return their money," she said.

Kalwar is a resident of Birgunj. His networking company, which has its headquarters in Thapathali of Kathmandu, is learnt to have expanded its branch offices in Dang, Banepa, Birgunj and Biratnagar as well.

CG opens first multi-brand electronics showroom

CG Electronics (P)

Nirvana Chaudhary, managing director of Chaudhary Group, inaugurated the showroom amid a ceremony on Monday. "This is a pioneer and innovative idea to sell world class appliances from different brands under the same roof," Chaudhary said, adding that CG is the second largest electronic brands in Nepal.

Product portfolio at CG Digital includes consumer electronics, home appliances and communication products by LG; consumer electronics, electrical, home appliances and communication products by CG; consumer electronics and home appliances by Onida; refrigerators by Kelvinator and small home appliances by Rico.

CG Digital will have more than 300 product models of the five leading brands in its shelves so that every one gets the best of what they want.

"We will add products from five more brands till the end of this year and add more showrooms as well in Jawalakhel, New Road, Civil Mall and New Baneshwar. This will help us achieve the motive of being in direct touch with our customers," Chaudhary added.

CG Digital will have a pool of trained sales assistants having vast knowledge of products kept on display. They will help customers choose the right product according to their requirement. Almost all the products at CG Digital come with free home delivery service with no additional installation charge.

CG Digital has taken care of everything that a customer needs including the financing of products. In collaboration with Guna Group, it has arranged attractive financing facility for customers who want to buy high-range products from the showroom.

Credit card holders can use their cards and pay for the products in installments of 3 to 18 months from the card itself. CG Digital claims that the bank rate for paying through the cards is also reasonable.

Products at CG Digital come with attractive warranty for protection against manufacturing defects. Batteries of communication productions come with six-month warranty. All the products come with at least one-year warranty while high range products are covered by up to four-year warranty.

China to grant zero-tariff to Nepal

China is preparing to phase in zero-tariff treatment to 95 percent of Nepal's products without any conditions with the aim of helping Nepal boost exports and reduce the bilateral trade imbalance.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the South-Asian China Trade Fair 2010 at Bhrikuti Mandap on Wednesday, Chinese ambassador Qiu Guohong said that 60 percent of 4,721 categories of products would start to enjoy zero-tariff treatment within 2010.

"The treatment will be officially implemented after the exchange of letters between the two governments," the envoy said. He added that the trade imbalance resulting from the difference of the commodity structure still existed despite the constantly rising volume of trade between China and Nepal.

Currently, Nepal-China trade is totals around Rs 36 billion and Nepal suffers from a trade imbalance of Rs 32 billion. Nepal has been requesting China to extend zero tariff facility to address its growing trade deficit since 2003.

Organised by the Nepal China Executives Council, the four-day fair targets to increase intra-regional trade. More than 20 Chinese companies associated with hydropower, agricultural equipment, seeds, automobiles, medical equipment and construction materials among others are participating in the exhibition. Vice president Parmananda Jha inaugurated the fair amid a function.

On the occasion, Surendra Bir Malakar, president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, underlined the need to boost intra-regional trade among South Asian countries for the reduction of poverty and rapid economic growth. South Asia accounts for only 2.5 percent of global GDP.

"Intra-regional trade within South Asia remained modest at 4.8 percent in recent years compared to other economic blocs like the European Union and East Asia," said Malakar. He added that the main reason for this low intra-regional trade was the prevalence of non-tariff barriers among the member countries.

Chinese electronic goods bring changes in Nepali society

KATHMANDU, Dec 13 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's entire socio-economic sector has witnessed radical change due to affordable goods imported from China in recent years.
In Nepal, one can not deny the fact that attractive prices and good quality Chinese electronic goods such as television, radio and computer have brought a revolutionary transformation in the area of information and communication among the masses living under poverty line in the country.
Owning affordable television sets imported from China, the number of television stations are also mushrooming in the country, thus bringing political awareness among the people living in remotest parts of the country.
Talking to Xinhua on Wednesday, Somesh Verma, program producer at Kantipur TV network says, "Affordable television sets has brought in communication at the hands of common people who could not have afforded it earlier due to the high price."

Lower Power Consumption for Electronics

Pandey Electronics (Dec. 11, 2010) — Panasonic and imec present at the International Electron Devices Meeting in San Francisco an innovative SiGe (silicon germanium) thin film packaged SOI-based MEMS resonator featuring an industry-record Q factor combined with a low bias voltage. The high Q factor was achieved by implementing a resonator that operates in a torsional vibration mode, and, by vacuum encapsulation of the resonator in a thin film package.
This groundbreaking resonator paves the way towards miniaturization and low power consumption of timing devices used in a variety of applications such as consumer electronics and automotive electronics.
MEMS resonators offer enhanced miniaturization over conventional resonators such as quartz crystals and piezoelectric ceramics. However, state-of-the art MEMS resonators suffer from a low Q factor and a high bias voltage. Panasonic and imec developed a novel packaged MEMS resonator achieving the highest Q factor reported in the industry until now (220,000 at a resonant frequency f=20MHz (f•Q product of 4.3X1012Hz)) and low bias voltage by combining different advanced MEMS technologies.
